• WF has been installed on my site for about 18 months, excellent! I am very grateful for this plugin and always appreciate WF email alerts and posts about security.

Today a shock to find my wp dashboard showed *NO* WF plugin. (everything else seemed unchanged).

As far as I could tell (not expert), WF was active until about 12 August. That means the last 4 days my site was vulnerable… while I believed it was protected by WF.

I am the only admin. I did NOT remove/uninstall WF. I did NOT delete any files on the server.

How could WF just disappear? Is there any way to provide email warning when WF stops working?

    Thank you very much.

  • Hi Jules – I am surprised you have not received a reply. My WordFence plugin also disappeared with no warning. I am in a bit of shock as I am now reinstalling the plugin after renaming the plugin folder. I am going to run a scan and check some settings, and then review the logs to see if I can find an alert or error. I am also the only admin. This could have been a real problem – it may still prove to be. I was doing a routine welfare check on the site when I realized the plugin was gone. I don’t know yet how long it has been gone. Are you a paid version user? I am not (yet). Did you ever have any luck tracking the problem on your end?

    Hi wcfortress,

After I re-installed Wordfence, I scanned and checked as much as I could. I did not find any clues about the cause. Thankfully, I did not find any problems in the site.

I was disappointed at no support reply over 6 months. However, I do understand the wf team cannot do everything for free. I’m grateful to use free Wordfence and sorry I have no budget for paid version (I work without pay to maintain a small non-commercial site).

I wish Wordfence could send an alert when it ‘disappears’ but maybe this is technically not feasible within the same plugin?

Instead, perhaps there could be a separate “Wf watcher” plugin. Only one purpose: check periodically ‘is wf running?’. If not, send email alert.

I hope someone with technical knowledge can say whether this is feasible.
