I’m having a problem with my website. After installing Wordfence, I saw this message on my plugins page: Image 1: https://paramourdeschiens.fr/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/1.png or https://paramourdeschiens.fr/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/2026-05-15_161825.png When I click to install, I get the following message: “Not Found. The requested URL was not found on this server.” So I have to deactivate the plugin to be able to log in to my interface. I successfully installed the plugin and had to change my .htaccess file, then I accidentally deleted the Authenticator app on my phone! How can I fix all this, please? The page I need help with is: https://paramourdeschiens.fr/
Hi @egres2,
Unfortunately, I can’t load the images linked above where I see a 404 also. If you’ve configured 2FA through Wordfence and no longer have the recovery codes or authenticator access you can do the following:
- Please use FTP/SFTP – or any file manager your web host provides via their administration panel.
- Look inside the /wp-content/plugins/ directory and rename the wordfence directory to wordfence.bak. This will deactivate Wordfence and allow you to login without the 2FA code.
- Once you have logged in to your WordPress admin you can name the folder back to wordfence again.
- You can reapply 2FA and download new backup codes from your user profile later, although I would recommend we try to solve any other issues with the site first.
Let us know how your 404 “Not Found…” issues are after regaining access,
Peter.

Thank you so much for your reply. I’m a complete beginner and I’m getting desperate. I’ll try again, but I can’t get it to work. I uninstalled Wordfence and cleaned the database. Then I reinstalled Wordfence, but I still get the same error message: “Not Found The requested URL was not found on this server.” And so I can no longer use Wordfence, no matter which option I choose in the menu. I just get this message 🙁 My website is http://www.paramourdeschiens.fr

The requested URL was not found on this server.”
Et du coup je ne peux plus me servir de Wordfence quelque soit l’option que je choisi dans le menu, je me retrouve avec ce message 🙁

Hi @egres2,
It’s not usual to have issues immediately after installing Wordfence. Even for very experienced WordPress users, it’s normally a matter of just installing and activating it from the plugins page. The default settings should be strict enough to be effective, but relaxed enough to not cause confusing blocks for the admin.
These resources should help you get up to speed:
Get Started With Wordfence In 15 Minutes: https://youtu.be/22QKoELf-no
Help Documentation: https://www.wordfence.com/help
Wordfence’s Free Learning Center: https://www.wordfence.com/learn/
Any issues that are more related to WordPress itself or configuration issues you’re having trouble with should be directed at one of the general WP forums: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
Your host may also be able to assist if there are permissions or installation issues using their one-click installers (or similar) to install WordPress that are causing 404s or files to be unavailable.
Thanks again – and let us know how you get on,
Peter.
