• Hi
I have been using Wordfence for a while now but out of the blue this error appeared.

“Scan FailedThe scan has failed to start. This is often because the site either cannot make outbound requests or is blocked from connecting to itself”

When I look under Diagnostics it says “Connectivity Ability to connect to the Wordfence servers and your own site”

If I view details it shows a long html code, something error 404

I have talked to my hosting provider and they say it has nothing to do with them but Wordfence itself.

Hope somebody can help me out, thanks

  • Hey @catbuus,

Have you had a chance to work through ur Scan Troubleshooting documentation?

    https://www.wordfence.com/help/scan/troubleshooting/

If not, please work through this and let me know if it helps. If it doesn’t, we’ll dig deeper.

Please let me know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Hi @wfgerald

Thanks for your reply. I have tried the different things in the “If your scans aren’t starting” section.

I have tried the different steps several times, and after the first time I tried to do the remote scan this came up “The scan has failed to start. This is often because the site either cannot make outbound requests or is blocked from connecting to itself.”

Maybe I don’t understand it correctly, but nothing seems to work.

    Hey @catbuus,

    Thanks for the update.

Can you send me a Diagnostics report so I can get a better overview of your environment? Please navigate to Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics. Here you can select SEND REPORT BY EMAIL. Please include your WordPress.org username and update this thread after you’ve sent it.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Hi @wfgerald

It’s send and thank you very much for your help.

    Hi @catbuus,

I couldn’t find your site’s diagnostics. Make sure you have the username catbuus for the Ticket ID / Username, and please resend the diagnostics again.

Can you try this again and see if it works?

    1. Go to Wordfence -> Tools -> Diagnostics -> Debugging Options
    2. Enable Start all scans remotely
    3. Save Changes

    Hi @wfdave

I have just tried again. I put catbuus in the username and it’s send to wftest@wordfence.com

I have tried the remote option several times, and I can’t make it work. Can you please have a look if you have received my email?

    (@catbuus)

@wfdave or @wfgerald did you receive anything?

    Hi @wfdave and @wfgerald
I never heard back from you? Did you ever receive my email?
Can you please reply to this message, thanks.

    Hey @catbuus,

My apologies for the delayed response.

I still haven’t been able to find your Diagnostics report. Can you please try resending it?

Are you certain that WordPress is sending emails? You can test this by navigating to Tools > Diagnostics > Other Test, which is at the very bottom of the page. You’ll notice two options to send test emails.

Send a test email from this WordPress server to an email address
Send a test activity report email

    Please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Hi @wfgerald

    Thank you for your reply.
I have located the “other test” area you’re talking about. Which of the two options should I use/try? And do you want me to enter my email address or yours (wftest@wordfence.com)?

    Thanks

    Hey @catbuus,

You can try either one, or both. The email(s) will come to your email account as the admin of the site. This is really just to make sure your WordPress site is able to send emails since we haven’t been able to locate your Diagnostics.

Please let me know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Hi @wfgerald

My email is not the admin for the site, should I then just put my email in one of the fields instead so I will receive the email?

    Hey @catbuus,

Yes, if the admin email isn’t associated with your account, please do add it to the test the email.

Are you currently receiving any other emails from the site?

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    (@catbuus)

    Hi @wfgerald

When I enter my email I receive an email. So it seems like it works.

I don’t normally receive emails, cause it’s not my email that’s used for the admin email for Wordfence.

Is there some other way I can send you the report @wfgerald
