WooCommerce Plugin Resource High CPU Usage

I hope you’re doing well.
I am reaching out regarding an issue I’ve been experiencing with my website, which is hosted on Hostinger’s Cloud plan. Over the last 5–7 days, I’ve noticed that the CPU resources are frequently being maxed out, causing the website to slow down at times.
I contacted Hostinger support, and they mentioned that the WooCommerce plugin is consuming a large amount of resources. However, my website currently has only around 30 products live, with just 1–2 variations each — so overall, not even 60 in total. Even with this small load, the plugin seems to be putting a lot of pressure on the server.
I always keep WooCommerce and all other plugins up to date, and everything else is also properly maintained. Despite that, the issue continues.
Could you please look into this on an urgent basis and help me understand why WooCommerce is causing this high CPU usage? If there’s anything you need from my side to investigate this further, please let me know — I’ll be happy to provide it.

Thank you for sharing the System Status Report. I can see that some of the database tables are quite large. To troubleshoot this further, please go to WooCommerce → Status → Tools and run the following:
- WooCommerce transients – Clear
- Expired transients – Clear
- Clear template cache – Clear
- Capabilities – Reset Capabilities
- Clear customer sessions – Clear
After that, please install the Action Scheduler plugin and clear the completed scheduled actions. I can see there are around 30,341 completed tasks, which may be contributing to the issue.
If the problem persists, I would suggest running a conflict test by deactivating all plugins except WooCommerce and switching to a default theme like Twenty Twenty-Five to see if the issue still occurs.
To avoid affecting your live site, I recommend creating a staging site and running the conflict test there. You can use a plugin such as WP Staging to easily set this up.

As per your previous instructions, I’ve completed all the recommended steps:
- Cleared WooCommerce transients
- Cleared expired transients
- Cleared template cache

I also installed the Action Scheduler plugin and successfully deleted all the 30,000+ completed scheduled actions.
After doing all this, I reached out to my hosting provider (Hostinger) again to check on the CPU load. They analyzed the situation and sent me a report containing two database queries that seem to be consuming high resources. They’ve advised me to forward this to you for review.

They each add their own product or price filtering so you end up running duplicate queries against the database. You need to choose one system to handle product filters and disable the other to cut down the extra load.

Thanks for the insight. However, I just wanted to clarify that ShopEngine is not installed on my site — I’ve never used it, and it’s not even present in my plugin list.I do use the XStore theme, so XStore Core is active, but there’s no second filtering system like ShopEngine running alongside it.
So I’m a bit confused about where the duplicate filtering queries are coming from.
I kindly request you to please look into this issue more deeply — very thoroughly — and help me understand what’s truly causing the high CPU usage. I’ve followed all your previous suggestions, and would really appreciate a deeper look from your side.

Hey @bagwani123 I saw a shopengine template entry in your system status report which is why I mentioned ShopEngine earlier but that just means a record is left in the database even if the plugin is not active. We have no way of knowing from the report whether it is actively used or not.
If you are saying the only filtering system running is XStore Core then this is a theme side issue. That is where the heavy price queries are coming from.
This is not a WooCommerce core issue. The high CPU load is caused by how your theme and its core plugin are handling price filters. It falls under site maintenance to clean up leftover template records and to make sure only one filter system is active. I would recommend working with XStore support to adjust their filter so it uses the WooCommerce lookup table instead of postmeta which will prevent the CPU spikes.

As @serafinnyc mentioned, the first step would be to optimize your site and database using a plugin such as WP Optimize, and also contact XStore theme support for assistance, since this isn’t something we can directly troubleshoot on our end.
From your system status report, I can see that XStore includes its own core custom plugin and overrides many of WooCommerce’s default templates.
For deeper troubleshooting, I recommend creating a staging site by cloning your live site to a subdomain or directory. On the staging site, switch your theme to Storefront, deactivate all plugins except WooCommerce, and then monitor its performance. Comparing the staging site to your live site will help determine whether the CPU usage issue is theme- or plugin-related.
