I must add that I have tried
    – installing the CodeStyling Localization Plugin (not sure where to set the distinction)
    – editing the related po file without the wording on the site changing

    Thanks

Hmmm…. once you get the PO stuff sorted, a small trick might work.

Let’s say you want WordPress to be in English, and Woo to be in German.

Create PO files labeled German for both WP and Woo. But in the WordPress German PO file, put in English values. Then switch the site to German (officially), and WP should remain in English.

I think that might work, YMMV.

    That’s clever Mark!

    Thanks for posting.
Since Woo has it’s own language files, copy the desired language in the WP language files?

I need WP in German, have downloaded the German WP files, but strangely enough I do not find any de_DE .po file for Woo.

Where would I find those files?

    Thx

Do you need WP in German and Woo in English?

    Worse.
WP in German and Woo in Russian.

The Russian translation of WP is so lousy that the person managing the store preferred German (she is not good in English).
The Russian version of Woo is also pretty bad. And

    Thx

Ok so you have the German WP file. Take the Russian woo file (which I assume you have), and copy it to the ‘Woo de_DE .po’ filename. Then do the official change to German. See if that does the job.

    PS thanks Roy!

    Thanks, but it does not.

Since the ‘Woo de_DE .po’ file name does not exist (don’t know how this can be, but it is not where the other Woo .po files are), I duplicated the Russian one and renamed/uploaded it accordingly.
    Not working.

Then I took a part of the Russian Woo file that I actually need and put it into the WP de_DE file – also nothing.

    Thx

Drat. Let’s try to test the action sequence. How about changing both WP and WOO to Russian, just to test the process (and then back again, of course).

    Appreciate you taking the time…
When I edit the SALE! translation in the Russian Woo file, it does not change the related text on the site (yes, I emptied the cache).

So first you have a process problem. Once that’s resolved, the validity of my proposed solution can be tested. Don’t know what’s wrong with your process, though…
