Widgets page is no longer working
-
I just discovered that the Widgets page for my site is non-functional: I can’t view installed widgets and even the Screen Options and Help tabs on the upper left corner are grayed out. If I hover over an available but unused widget, the cursor changes to arrows but it isn’t draggable.
The configured widgets are working, but I can’t view or change them or their options. I don’t know when the problem started to occur as I haven’t wanted to make any widget changes in a long time. I’m using the Complexity 2 theme, but I’ve been using it since I set up this web site in WP 3.2.x and the widget locations are part of the theme, without issue until now.
Is there a permission error on the page or something? I am certainly an admin. Help!

Have you tried deactivating all plugins and switching to a default theme to start troubleshooting this? If that fixes it, reverse your steps one by one to see what’s causing the problem.
Also, if you are still using WP3.5.1 – that’s a major security risk – you should get that updated ASAP.
I haven’t tried that- I’m not a WP yogi like you 🙂 and I don’t want to screw up a production site.
I know deactivating all widgets will only cause reversible changes to the site. My main concern is switching themes, because widgets locations and configs used to get completely screwed up when a theme was changed. Is that still the case?
Last time I tried upgrading to 3.6 I had an issue with redirects that I couldn’t resolve and I had to do a complete restore. So I’m skittish on that.
I found the problem- it was a plug-in called Widget Logic Visual, which allows you to customize which widgets appear on different pages using the same template. Fortunately it turns out that I don’t really need it right now.
Thanks for your help!
