It depends entirely on what you are trying to do. I routinely use text widgets to create html links to external sites. All you need to do is add a text widget to your sidebar, type in your html code and press the save changes button. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Ah, okay it works. The first time I tried it just showed the html-code.
