I don’t quite understand why this happens, so perhaps somebody else knows. When ever I go to choose a Featured Image for a Post from my NGG Gallery, I notice that in the uploads folder it always creates duplicates of the image and yet these are never used or called.

So let’s say I use the same featured image twice on two different articles (all handled through NGG), under the /upload/ folder I will see these created for the first post:

    2_testimage_uk.gif
    2_testimage_uk-600×600.gif
    2_testimage-768×768.gif

..and these for the second post:

    3_testimage_uk.gif
    3_testimage_uk-600×600.gif
    3_testimage-768×768.gif

This makes no sense to me, why does it wastefully need to generate a new image for every single post? Why not just use the original set? Also, is there a way to disable this behavior?

  • Hello @ispreview,

When a NextGEN Gallery image is used as a featured image, it’s copied to the media library, which means the thumbnails and various sizes set by WP and the active theme will
be created for that featured image.

There are ways to control how many sizes are generated when uploading into the Media Library; go to Settings > Media

    We hope that this helps!
