I’d suggest either of these themes:
http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/weaver-ii
http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/suffusion
They both have TONS of built in options (easier for you 🙂 ), and great support by the developers. I think you already asked about books – they might be helpful but can get outdated fast.
I’d suggest starting here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Getting_Started_with_WordPress
and here: http://wordpress.tv/
Google can also find you lots of online resources, including YouTube videos.
Thanks. I did already ask about books—been on so many forums that I forgot who I asked. Being of a certain age, I just feel more comfortable looking at a book than the computer screen. But I do realize how quickly they get out of date.
Have added WordPress to my new host (Winhost) so now I need to figure out what I am doing. Tried one sample but it made me edit my header logo width which pretty much rules that one out.
LOL – I’m of that (book) generation too :)! And I read a couple of WP books when I was getting started too – it does give you a basic understanding that’s useful. So sure, I’d suggest using the reviews on Amazon – they’re still subjective but the sheer number of them does tend to offset some of that.
Try the Weaver theme – it’s close to the layout of yours and pretty easy to work with (comparatively) – though of course, there is still a learning curve.
Thanks for that advice. I will try out the two themes suggested and have found a couple books on Amazon. I just want to concentrate on what is on the site rather than how to design it, so the simpler the better.
