• Returning to my site http://www.squidprocrow.com after a bit of an absence. Looks like I missed a couple of updates in the interim. Just noticed that now when I view my page, there’s a link to another site in the upper right hand corner of the header that looks like an ad. I’m not sure if this is a main WordPress update or an update of the plugin Comic Easel or I’ve been hacked, but I want to get rid of it. I’m not much of a coder, so I don’t know how to identify the line and remove it, but it seems like it would a simple enough thing for someeone who knows what they’re doing. Any help please?

  • I am sorry to hear your site is damaged. Do you or your hosting company have a full backup of your site? The fastest and most sure way to repair your site is to restore from a backup made before the hack.

Without a backup your only solution is to repair the site. Follow this guide.

When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.

try a few basic troubleshooting steps:
    – Flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches.
    – deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the unedited default Twenty Fifteen theme for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
    – If that does not resolve the issue, try resetting the plugins foldervia FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
    – If all the above steps do not resolve the issue, scan your site, use online Scuri scanner: http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/scanner/

Thanks for the help. It went away when I installed the latest versions of all my plug-ins.
