Where can I find the basic code that's required for a WordPress theme?

I can create websites with html and css and I would like to know where can I find the basic code required for the wordpress theme to work, that is the header, footer, page and sidebar. I have searched the codex documentation but I cannot find that basic code that is all required for all the pieces to fit together. Can someone please point me in the correct direction.
