Stupid question, I know, but I can’t see what it’s doing as I change the value.

Also, are the share icons (FB, TW, PIN) in the lightbox code, or can those be disabled somewhere?

Thanks for the ONLY plugin that does what it does so well! Lifesaver!

but I can’t see what it’s doing as I change the value

It is primarily used for two things:

    1. It is the image size that shows up when you open a lightbox (generally a full-sized image with high resolution)
    2. For certain layouts it is also used as a part of the gallery display by default. E.g. if you are using the “Random justified grid” or “Masonry” or “Mosaic” layouts, since those layouts are more fluid, Photonic uses the “Main size” instead of the thumbnail size – it makes the galleries prettier. A word of caution about this: if you have many photos and you try to load the full sized images for all of them, this will slow down your page considerably. So it is advisable to use the “Tile size” option for this and set a slightly smaller tile size.

I know that I should have probably stuck with just two sizes (thumb and main), however the ability to specify the size in the shortcode only came in 2016. Prior to that you were able to define the sizes as global options and all your galleries followed those settings, so I needed to make sure that the fluid layouts didn’t draw the short straw and gave them the “Tile size” option.

Also, are the share icons (FB, TW, PIN) in the lightbox code, or can those be disabled somewhere?

You can disable them from Photonic → Settings → Lightboxes → Common → Social media integration. It is all or none, though – you cannot selectively disable some.

Swift reply AND a thorough answer – awesome!

    Follow-up question:
I’d like to customize the padding on the square thumbnail gallery as well as skin the MORE button, if possible. What would you suggest as the best way of tweaking that CSS?

Sorry, my second response is not as swift as my first 🙂

I’d like to customize the padding on the square thumbnail gallery

In most cases this is possible via the options. E.g. for Google Photos you can go to Photonic → Settings → Google Photos → Photos (Main Page), and you will see the options starting from “Constrain Photos Per Row”. Note that the padding options defined here apply to all sides, not just the left and right.

That brings me to another topic, and also one that addresses your second question:

as well as skin the MORE button, if possible. What would you suggest as the best way of tweaking that CSS?

For any styling that cannot be tweaked via the options, you can add them via the standard WP route, Appearance → Customize → Additional CSS.

Let me know if you require help with changing specific things and I can provide you with the CSS for that.

    Hi,
I am marking this resolved as there don’t seem to be any follow-up questions, but please feel free to reopen this thread if you require any further assistance.
