So to start, I am not very knowledgeable about the creation websites but despite this, I’ve created a fairly basic WordPress website that had everything I needed. I decided to install Woocommerce to poke around and see how easy it would be to list potential products on the site. After installing the main Woocommerce plugin, going through setup, and also adding the PayPal Payments plugin, I found out I would have to alter my website theme to cater to everything. I updaed some settings, entered some info, and created an example product page to see how what it would look like using my current theme. However, I decided I would come back to this whole process later after exploring other options such as third party ecommerce websites.

So that is when I made the mistake of disabling the Woocommerce plugin. Little did I know, disabling this plugin which I had added about 30 minutes prior seems to have completely nuked the website. Immediately after refreshing, I receive the blank error screen that reads “There has been a critical error on this website.”

At this point, I cannot access my WordPress Dashboard or the website itself. I host through Bluehost and I am able to log into my bluehost account, but there doesnt seem to be much I can do from here. And of course, I hadnt opted to pay for the site backup subscription service.

So at this point I am at a loss of how to recover anything. Without even being able to reach the dashboard, I dont know where to begin. Any tips of where to go to begin rectifying this issure would be greatly appreciated, and if you need more information I will be happy to share. Thank you

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Thank you for your reply! I hadn’t realized until after I made this post that I received an automated email from WordPress that detected the website was down. This email included a link to a ‘recovery mode’ that did allow me to go back to the WordPress dashboard. From there, I was able to re-enable the Woocommerce plugin which caused the site to crash.
