What happens if I change plugin?

    Hi,
    I have problems updating the plugin ‘display widgets’. Have tried maybe ten times now and after each time it says ‘updated’ I get the message shortly after that the plugin needs to be updated. Am tired of that so my question is – will it create problems if I deactivate that plugin and instead activate ‘Widget Options’ or Easy Widget Columns’?
    I had someone help me creating the theme so I do not know the details regarding ‘display widgets’
