• I am sure I may rile a few feathers here, but after seeing many new themes, and there are some very good ones, here is my critique.

Kubrick is the default theme in WP. I do not personally feel that one can just change the header image and claim a new theme. I have seen this time and time again. Now I am not pointing fingers, but let us not change a single background color and claim a new theme. Personally I think this is demeaning to the original theme creator as well as all the individuals who take the time to creativly come up with a new theme. This is not a matter of taste as to whether or not I like a particular theme but rather the ammount of work that goes into one.

Hope nobody takes this the wrong way.

My post was more meant to inspire creativity and there are numerous of creative themes done very artistically. I did not mean to offend anyone but in all fairness to me there did seem to be a lot of simple changes that really were not worthy of being called a “New Theme”

I know I’m reviving a 5-day-old thread, but I never really thought about it until now. I was looking at Alex King’s competition themes, and noticed my theme with different colors (and solid borders instead of dotted) entered by someone else. Heh. Even my html comments are the same. 😛

Look on the bright side. It might win 🙂

    Haha!

I for one would not feel comfortable calling someone else’s theme my own by simply chaninging the background and header, and a few text colors. I wouldn’t even fancy the idea of taking the credits out of the sidebar. I am learning a ton of information in a short time by having the luxury of having a “theme” to build off of, rather than tasked with learning AND developing a site that satisfies my taste.
This work is being distributed for free, and the least someone could do is maintain the credit, if for nothing else, to give some sort of credibility to the creator when questions arise about design and CCS.
I would like to again take a moment to all those involved with this community for the opportunity to learn and develop some skills in this medium.
