• Hey all,
I have been reading a lot of references to ‘permanent links’ in the forum and to be honest I do not really know what they are.
Could someone tell me what purpose they serve?
When I ckick on one nothing really happens.
    Thanks

  • LaffingLiz,
Would it be asking too much if you could please share your “permalink forcing the page title” hack with your buddies here at WP? Or perhaps you have already done so?
    Thanks!!
    Craig.

I’ve read all of the posts on permalinks and feel stupid because I’ve tried it all, and it doesn’t work. After making changes to the .htaccess file, the links are accurate. They turn into: http://www.name.com/wp/title/ or http://www.name.com/wp/category/name/.
But when clicking on them, it 404s. The content is not showing up there. I tried the permanlink_single and got an error. The links work, but the content is not there to meet the link.

Then you probably have a problem with mod_rewrite, perhaps your host doesn’t support it or you have a weird setup with your blog and WP in different directories. I would recommend turning off the fancy permalinks in your permalink options.
