• Hey, your plugin looks really useful and high quality! Thanks for the effort and also for making this free to use. Awesome!

I currently setting up a shop and your plugin comes in handy. One striking gap in your feature list though: the ability to exclude product categories! This would make life a lot easier.

Thanks for the kind words, glad the plugin is earning a spot in your setup.

Category exclusions come up and I get why. The current design gives you two levels of control. Global rules set the default for a role, and product rules override the global wherever the blanket discount is wrong. So the control exists today, it’s just per product rather than per category. The workaround for exempting a product right now is a product rule using Set Price at the product’s regular price. It works but I’ll be straight with you, it won’t follow along if you later change the regular price.

A category layer is something I’m weighing, and real detail from a real shop helps me size it. Two questions if you’re up for it. Products often sit in more than one category, so if a product is in both a category you’d exclude and one you wouldn’t, what should happen? And which categories would you actually exclude in your store?

No promises on if or when, but concrete answers like this are what move a request up the list.

    Fast reply, cool! 😉

I would say that an exclusion should always win.

In practice, category exclusions are simply a convenient way to exclude multiple products at once. Ultimately, the important point is the product exclusion itself, not the category assignment. I would therefore not want a product to become discountable again simply because it also belongs to another, non-excluded category.

So if a product belongs to both an excluded category and a regular category, I would expect the role discount not to apply.

In our case, we would exclude merchandise, gift cards, and certain low-margin product categories. These are products where applying the normal B2B discount could remove most or all of the margin.

For us, the safest rule would therefore be: if a product belongs to any excluded category, it is excluded from the role discount everywhere.

That’s exactly the detail I was after, thanks.

Your logic makes sense to me. The category is just the delivery mechanism, the real purpose is that certain products never get the role discount. A membership in any excluded category as a hard exclusion is also the only version that fails safe for margins, so if I build this, that’s the behavior I’d build.

Gift cards are the perfect example. A percentage discount on a gift card is basically handing out free money, so the caution is warranted. And it backs up your own point: the exclusion really belongs to the product itself, not the category. That is what the Set Price workaround is approximating today, and a proper per product exclusion is the cleaner shape of it.

I can’t promise a version or a date yet, but you’ve made the case clearer and handed me a spec I could build against. In the meantime the Set Price workaround will hold the line on your highest risk products.

I’ll follow up on this thread if it ships.

Awesome and thanks for taking the time to think it through. It’s as you concluded, and yes, for the shop I am setting up the exclusions available will work.

I really think this feature would be a real win for your plugin as it’s convenient and accelerates the whole “what to exclude” flow.

Thanks again for the fast reply and for the plugin in general! I’ll keep an eye on the thread. Happy development 😉
