WF and .htaccess issues

adding the following code to my wp-content directory .htaccess file makes WF stop displaying correctly in the admin panel…

order deny,allow
deny from all
<files ~ ".(xml|css|jpe?g|png|gif|js)$">
allow from all

anyone know why?
