Welp, it just works.

After needing a solution to do a simple migration, i.e. move only the database from MySQL to MariaDB on a different virtual machine while leaving all of the website folders in tact, I tried this plugin and it was flawless as far as I can see.

Make your backup.
Create your new empty database.
Change your database information in your wp-config file.
Re-load your site and run a generic install so you can…
Re-install this plugin, then restore the backup.

Bang! Migrated in mere minutes.
