• I have inherited a website at work and am trying to make changes, but keep receiving error messages. When I go to update I get these error messages: “You cannot update because WordPress 5.5 requires PHP version 5.6.20 or higher. You are running version 5.3.25.” and “Downloading update from https://downloads.wordpress.org/release/wordpress-5.1.6-new-bundled.zip…
Download failed.: cURL error 6: Couldn’t resolve host ‘downloads.wordpress.org’
    Installation Failed”

I’ve tried making changes to the index.php file and receive this error message: “Unable to communicate back with site to check for fatal errors, so the PHP change was reverted. You will need to upload your PHP file change by some other means, such as by using SFTP.”

Does anyone have a place to start? The site is using the Hayden theme from https://themetrust.com/, but we are having a hard time locating the login information for that site… because none of us were with the company when the website was created.

Would it be easier to just scrap the site and start over completely?

    Please update PHP

Check/Change Password, Username, Email in database:
    – The password is encrypted and stored in the database in the users table. To reset password, review https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/
    – Username is also stored in the users table. To change username, click the edit button (the pencil icon) next to your user and change what is entered into the user_login field.
    – To change the email address for the admin user account, click the edit button (the pencil icon) next to your user and change what is entered into the user_email field.

We have the login information for the backend of the WordPress side, but we cannot update the email address (we don’t have access to the old email address). When I send an email change request I don’t receive an email and we have tried multiple times to reset.

Thank you for your help! Unfortunately, none of those suggestions have worked.

I just deleted the old theme, downloaded/installed a new theme, and I am still getting this error message when trying to update the site: “Downloading update from https://downloads.wordpress.org/release/wordpress-5.1.6-new-bundled.zip…
Download failed.: cURL error 6: Couldn’t resolve host ‘downloads.wordpress.org’

    Bonjour,

“Warning: require_once(/homepages/1/d553724015/htdocs/wp-includes/class-wp-object-cache.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /homepages/1/d553724015/htdocs/wp-includes/cache.php on line 12

Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘/homepages/1/d553724015/htdocs/wp-includes/class-wp-object-cache.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php7.2′) in /homepages/1/d553724015/htdocs/wp-includes/cache.php on line 12

    Marie
