    Hi,
Version 3.2.4, I’m trying to set the ‘website logo’ option in the schema settings. When I use ‘select logo’ it forces you to crop the logo to a square. But there’s nothing in the schema that I can find or in Googles guidelines that require a square. Google does provide a size guideline of 112x112px minimum – but they don’t say anything about it having to be a square image?

    Hello πŸ™‚

They don’t have image guidelines (aside for AMP stories), but all their rich snippets imply that the logos should be square.

The closest official answer I could find (regarding structured data), is this:
    https://support.google.com/webmasters/forum/AAAA2Jdx3sUXGYQZx4ZHWI/

I followed up on your question regarding max image size, and there are no max dimensions except that we prefer a squared logo image at a min of 112×112

Via that thread, I was able to find a logo that wasn’t square; as shown in the image below:
    FirstGroup Google Results example

With that, yes, I’ll remove that restriction in the next update. Please follow up here:

Thanks for your input! Cheers πŸ™‚

    Awesome – thanks Sybre.

Apologies if I’m intruding on this thread, but not quite clear on whether this addresses my experience.
I’ve modified a logo to have a width of 112, yet when selecting that image in the Schema setting, it is bringing up the Crop tool to force cutting the image even more.
Is this the restriction you are talking about eliminating?
What should I do for now regarding attaching a logo reference to TSF’s setting?

    Thanks in advance,
    Delain

    Hi Delain,

This is because of that TSF v3.2.4 and below force square proportions.

And yes, that’s exactly what we were talking about eliminating. I recommend adding whitespace to the top and bottom for now.

But, submitting it is not crucial; we’ve found that the logo item is barely used, if at all.

Nevertheless, the forced proportions have been removed for the next update, where only 112px or more in size is required. It’s a massive major update, so it may take a while before it’s released. Stay tuned!

    Thank you for your response.

    Delain

I do not understand in that way. i think that is the minimun, but it says nothing about the maximun or proportion. In other situations, the ratio is in the recomendations, but not here.

besides, if you pay attention, many companies have no square logo (like samsung) and they can have their logo as rich snippets.

    Hi Antonio, @colomet,

The next update will remove the currently imposed restrictions.

With that, from TSF v4.0, for the logo uploader:

    1. The minimum size is 112×112 pixels.
    2. The maximum size is 4096×4096 pixels.
    3. The default cropper size is set to 512×512 pixels. But, you may alter it.
    4. The image may be of any shape (and between 112 to 4096 pixels).

    cool

    Hello!

TSF v4.0 has just been released. Now, you can upload a logo of any proportion! Do make sure it’s at least 112×112 px. Cheers!
