Hello, I’m new to WordPress development and I’m running into a bit of an issue. The site that I’m working on runs incredibly slow as in it’ll take upwards to fifteen seconds to navigate to another page. The main thing that speed checking sites such as Pagespeed Insights and the WordPress speed test say are that there is a redirect, but the redirect is taking up to five seconds and I’m not sure if I can speed that up.

The website is hosted on Network Solutions and runs on OpenResty. I’ve looked through the forums to see if there’s anything else, but I have WP Rocket for a lot of optimizations, compressed images, and deactivate plugins that I don’t need to use. The WordPress admin dashboard is also extremely slow.

I’m at the end of my rope and I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could give me suggestions or take a look and see if I missed something. Thank you so much.

It takes the server about 13–14 seconds to start responding.

    The problem is the server.

By the server, do you mean the hosting provider? What can I do to fix that?

    Hello Throwawaybill!

Yes, you may want to contact your hosting provider directly as this looks like an issue with their servers. It could be they’re not providing you with the necessary resources to run a WordPress site, or they’re not providing you with the network speed and reliability you need for the website. Either way, it seems like a good idea to talk to them and see if they can help you diagnose the issue.

    I hope this helps!

    Sincerely,
    Carolyn

It doesn’t necessarily have to be the hosting; it could also be an unfavorable combination of plugins or even just a single plugin.

For example, I notice that you seem to be using both Jetpack optimizations and WP Rocket. I would recommend disabling one of them.

I would also suggest testing what the page load times are like without any plugins. Try deactivating them all for testing purposes.

You can also try uploading a simple PHP file with basic text output via FTP alongside WordPress. If you can access it quickly, the issue is likely not with the hosting, but rather with the factors mentioned above.

I will take a further look into disabling each plugin. Thanks to each one of you for your help.

The issue did end up being the hosting provider. We swapped from Network Solutions to Hostinger and the speed improved dramatically. Thank you all for your help, I greatly appreciate it.
