Support » Installing WordPress » Warning: Cannot modify header information

  • This has been discussed in several threads but I have yet to find a solution. It’s excruciating and I’m close to giving up…
Installation appears to be successful. Blog is created and populated with sample entry, etc… But all attempts to log in are thwarted. The Login screen displays the following error:
Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home2/crshlndg/doren-www/wordpress/wp-includes/functions-formatting.php:833) in /home2/crshlndg/doren-www/wordpress/wp-login.php on line 562

Other threads have suggested purging the extra “whitespace” or line after the ?> in the config file and elsewhere. I’ve tried that, as well as replacing filed due to possible upload problems. And every other suggestion in the Forum.
I have WP running smoothly on my local machine (mac os x) but I can’t get this running on my host. I’m close to giving up. Any help appreciated.

Check the end of the file mentioned in the first error.

Yes, it seems my problem/solution was the same after all.
A number of the “include” files had an extraneous carriage return. When I fixed the first offender and refreshed the page, I saw the same error message but didn’t realize it was referring to a different include file. I just went through one at a time until I had crushed the offender. Then logged in.
Thank you for the assistance! Much appreciated!
