    I am getting a warning message in my WordPress dashboard:

    WAP AI Assistant requires HTTPS to use WordPress Application Passwords. The AI chat widget will be hidden until this site is served over HTTPS. Learn more.
    —–

    I believe it is related to WordFence, because it wasn’t there before I installed WordFence, and is there after.

    1. The message doesn’t identify what plugin (or other feature) is issuing this message. I have deduced that it is WordFence, because it appeared after I installed WordFence, and wasn’t there before.
    2. My website *Does* use https.
    3. I’m seeing this on other websites that use WordPress, that are hosted on different hosting companies. It doesn’t seem to appear on websites that don’t use WordFence.
    4. It’s not clear what functionality this relates to. The link in the message takes me to a webpage that refers to WordPress 5.6 and beyond – that is an ancient version
    5. It’s not clear what I should do, nor how I might access/use this WAP AI Assistant.

    Please help me solve this puzzle.

    I see the same message on all mine and my clients’ websites. All Wordfence installed, and of course all HTTPS. No other message whatsoever besides a link to https://make.wordpress.org/core/2020/11/05/application-passwords-integration-guide/

    Every one of my clients now see this in their WP admin dashboard.

    Is this a bug or do we have a setting misconfigured in either WP or Wordfence?

    Update: message seems to disappear once you have clicked the link. But still not sure what caused the notice in the first place..

    Hi Bryan,

    Thanks for reaching out! That notice isn’t generated by Wordfence, but Wordfence may still be involved.

    Wordfence disables WordPress application passwords by default via the “Disable WordPress application passwords” option in Wordfence > All Options > Brute Force Protection. You can find more information on that option here: https://www.wordfence.com/help/firewall/brute-force/

    Set that option to OFF, save, and reload your admin page. If the WAP AI Assistant notice clears, that was it.

    As for what is causing this, I can’t say, since it depends on your individual setup. You likely have a plugin or theme using WAP AI Assistant. Your host may be able to review and determine which one.

    @sennevdp, thanks for letting us know what you found. If you’re still having any trouble, please start a new topic so we can help you with your specific setup. Unless users have the exact same WordPress version on the same physical server, hosted by the same host, with the same plugins, theme, and configurations, a solution that works for one user likely won’t work for another.

    However, it seems that the observed warning/error message has disappeared all by itself. Without that, I don’t think I can test your solution.
