• I wish to build a website using WordPress (I have been using Dreamweaver). The site requires basic web pages such as About Us, Services, Products & Contacts, with drop-down menus and other basic website stuff. I would then like to begin to add all of the additional functionality/plugins that WordPress has to offer.

I think I have confused myself via the videos and info available about this, and the need for the installation of the files/programmes I need , to be provided via a WAMP download and install or via the WordPress 5 Minute install.

Does the 5 Minute install give me all that I need to build a website and use whatever software I have to provide a database for MySQL, graphics for my own theme etc as long as I have a programme to FTP my files onto a server that supports PHP, MySQL and WordPress?

Is the only thing that WAMP gives me is the added ability to test my site offline?

Am I correct in assuming then, that if I build a WordPress website then I have to upload the files and then log into the site with my browser to then be able to see how it looks – ie. no preview on my PC?

    Thanks, Chris

Yes – assuming that your hosting fulfils the minimum requirements.
