visual composer

I haven’t had to update my site in quite a while so when I went to do it today somehow it has visual composer on it. I don’t know where it came from. did it install with a update? I never had to use it before when I did any editing. total theme. now it says I have to purchase it too. is there a way to disable it or am I stuck with it. Thanks
