• I recently updated the software behind the Virtual Multi-User Blog (cf: http://striderweb.com/nerdaphernalia/2008/11/virtual-multiblog-25/), since I have several WordPress blogs I’d like to run on one site, but I don’t want to have multiple folders cluttered with the same files, nor do I want to have to set up and keep track of multiple databases for my WordPress installs.

Right now, I have one “master” folder that contains all the WordPress files, and a subdomain that is symlinked to that folder. From what I understand, that means I don’t need to have a folder with more WordPress files for my subdomain. And if I create more blogs in the future, I just need to create symlinks for them, not new folders with WordPress inside.

Anyway, everything was working great a few days ago (I updated mainly due to security concerns), but upon updating, I found that I was asked to go through the 5-minute install again. My host made a backup of the relevant files and asked me to go through with the install, which I did…but once I did, I found that it created a whole new table within the database I specified in the config files from the VMB.

Is there any way to fix that so that I can force the updated software to see the old tables with existing information, instead of asking me to start fresh and therefore build new tables?

Is there a more efficient way to accomplish this, if I’m not very proficient with PHPMyAdmin and whatnot?
