We have a new WP website up and running and already want to make some improvements to it but not with the original developers, whom we are not happy with.
In order to ask other people to look at it and see what can be done, I would like to create a Guest role that can VIEW absolutely everything, including all the under the hood stuff, but not edit anything.
Seems like that should be an easy thing to set up yet under Capabilities it seems like the only thing you can do is either give access to something or no access, even with a custom role.
I’m not an expert on this web stuff (which is why I need to contact with outside developers!)but would like to know if it is even possible to give VIEW permissions to all the programming. It’s not a blog site, so permissions related to editing or viewing posts is not relevant.
    thanks!!

I’ve been thinking about this and I don’t see a way to make this happen.

You might do better to make a clone of the website and let people play around with that.

    No, it’s not possible.

Being very frank here, if you can’t trust a developer to look at the site and not break it, don’t let them look at it in the first place. You really should find a reputable local developer that can help you with the work, and you can put your trust in.

The good part is that most semi-decent developers that know WordPress won’t need to see how everything is built in order to give you an idea on what they can do to fix/change what you want.

Well, that’s that then! Thanks for your help.
