@seeker286 – That is a very odd issue. I do not even see the HTML container in your page source where the text is normally displayed.
Would you be able to submit a Bug Report (http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/) with log in credentials for our Support Team / Developers to have a closer look at this?
Thanks!
– Cais.
If you are using Attach-To-Post you may need to turn the setting on for that specific gallery. In the edit page/post page click on the placeholder image and try applying the “Show slideshow” setting there.
@benjamin, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried that, with no success.
@cais, I submitted a Bug Report as requested.
Thanks to Cais for helping me figure this out.
It turns out the conflict is with using the legacy templates (gallery-caption.php, gallery.php, etc.). The only way to get the “View as slideshow” link to appear is to leave the template option blank in both Gallery Settings and on the individual gallery.
The legacy templates have been deprecated, and my understanding is that the plan is to move that functionality into the user interface. Until that happens, it seems to be a choice between including captions and having the “View as slideshow” link.
Cais encouraged me to request this as a new feature: http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/feature-voting/. I tried to add this as a new item, but it hasn’t shown up on the list yet.
@seeker286 – Thanks for the update and sharing your findings here!
