• Hi all,

    ***Background***
I have a Dedicated Server ( Ubuntu ) hosted at Godaddy, and i plan to sell Pay-per-View Videos.
To do that, i already have the membership Plugin to manage the access side of the thing.
I have searched today ( almost 8 hours ) for a ” Hack ” to prevent direct access to the videos i want to sell. I dont want to sell the download video, only the Watch Video.
However, i dont want that someone who dont have subscrived my membership Video Plan got access to the video. ( Watch or Download )

    ***My Thoughts****
I think that what i need to do is upload my videos outside the webroot folder. Something like /home/myuser/my_video_file.mp4(etc…), and then with [ video ] shortcode make the hole thing work.

    ***My Question***
How do i setup src of [ video ] ?
    src=”How_i_tell_WP_to_get_my_video_at_/home/myuser/my_video_file” ?

And also, need i to give chown to apache or another user to get the video?

Thank you very much for your thoughts, and sorry about my english.

  • Suggest that you have your videos outside your webroot, call these your masters.
When someone subscribes, say the condition is that can view that video for say 7 days, (or 3 or 30 or whatever). You create a link with a random name to the master, say the link expires on 30th July 2014, then place this link in /view/2014/07/30
Once this date has passed, you can delete this directory and all the viewer’s links stop working.

You will have a supplementary database table of your products, use a plugin to manage this catalogue.

Thanks @rossmitchell nice idea, but the Membership Plan is for 1 Year, so, i think that youre idea is good but dont apply do my case. Is a good idea yes for a ” Video-on-Demand “. My plan is different because i gonna sell lets say 15 videos, but at the end of the first year who gonna purchase gonna see 40 videos and not 15, because i made 1 video by week.

I have one idea like yours but i dont know if exists a way to do that.
My idea is to encript the url.

In other words, for my idea works, i need one plugin that pick all video files, lets say, myvideo.mp4, and encript to funtion_whatever(‘021023214whatever0120120’), then, at src i put src=”funtion_whatever(‘021023214whatever0120120’)” and all works.

If someone go to the code source to get the link, the only think he see is the funtion, or, the link encoded.

But, i dont know if exist a plugin to do that. I dont know how to search a plugin like that. And finally, i dont know if is one good idea.

Again, im gonna think better, and thanks for youre thought.
