Hello, whenever I am trying to publish the web story with a video that has audio on it(I also put a caption for the audience to read), I keep getting the error telling me to “make my web story accessible” by “keeping the audience engaged even when they can’t listen to audio”.

I have also tried to put a description of video under the accessibility option and still have no luck. My first story I uploaded had music and was fine, so I am not understanding why this is such an issue for me now.

  • @abartley Hi there! Unfortunately, we are not allowed admin access per forum guidelines, but we’d like to work with you to get this message resolved.

To confirm, you’ve uploaded a video and the captions/subtitles, but the checklist still displays that message. Is that correct? Can you click on the thumbnail in the checklist (where this message displays) and it should drive you to the video it is referencing? Confirm that the captions and subtitles were uploaded in the design panel for referenced video.

Thank you for your quick response. I ended up removing the audio and just keeping the captions, which worked to let me publish the story.

For future reference, do I need to create separate audio files for the captions/subtitles to upload? Is there a “how to” article on how to go about doing that by chance?

@abartley Adding captions is considered a best practice to help readers better understand your story.

You can create a VTT file yourself with a text editor or you can use a tool at https://www.vtt-creator.com/ that allows you to upload a video and create the VTT captions for it.

    Hopefully, this helps!
