If it’s a Vevo video on YouTube it will work, but not a video directly from the Vevo website. As far as I can tell there is no API to retrieve information for videos on the Vevo.com website.

    Thanks for the quick response.

I just did another test by pasting a YouTube url of the Vevo video and not directly from Vevo. The featured video works but it still doesn’t generate a thumbnail.

I’ve had no problems with regular YouTube videos but any YouTube Vevo videos don’t seem to populate the thumbnail. Am I suppose to be pasting the embedd code or should the straight YouTube link work?

Thanks again for your quick support.

Embed code or link should both work fine, try them in the debugging tab on the settings page. What’s the code you’re using?

When I use debug tab it shows the thumbnail for both embedd code and url.

I am using the WordPress Featured Video plugin where it generates the thumbnail usually straight from that video with your plugin.

Does it only generate a VEVO thumbnail if the video is embedded within the post or should it normally be able to read it off the Featured Video plugin like it does for other YouTube videos?

    Thanks again for your help.

Video Thumbnails doesn’t differentiate between videos posted on YouTube, so the other plugin you’re using might be doing something special for ones uploaded by Vevo if other YouTube videos are working.

I found a workaround. If I just post the youtube link in the blog content section it will make the video thumbnail. I can then just manually select that thumbnail with the media library as the featured image and put the youtube url in featured video field.

    Thanks again!

The other plugin is probably storing the video in a custom field, so if you go to the settings page for Video Thumbnails and click the “Automatically detect” button for the custom field setting, it might solve your problem.
