The latest update to version 2.0 completely breaks the legacy widget. It displays the “malformed data structure” error instead. I tried re-connecting the Instagram account under the plugin settings, and it did not make a difference. I am a theme developer, and I am experiencing this across multiple websites. I also have multiple customers who have reported the same problem.

Within the widget settings, the statements suggests the widget will be discontinued in a future update. However, it appears to be broken already. Was this the intention?

I certainly understand moving to the block, but completely breaking existing functionality with an update without warning is disappointing. There is a simplicity to the widget that is nice, and also it would be nice to have a transition period to better prepare for the retirement of the widget.

Could you please advise, is the widget no longer supported in the latest version of the plugin? Is there an extension that can be added to continue using the widget for some period of time? Thanks.

    Hello @pixandhue,

We are sorry about causing such issues.

We’ve released some updates to our plugin today, and they should fix some of these bugs.

There was a bug when the legacy widget worked only on pages including the new block.

The legacy widget will not be removed any time soon from the plugin, so you can continue to use it.

Hi again – Thank you for your quick response, I appreciate your help! Thank you for releasing the update. I will update the plugin to the latest version to continue the testing the legacy widget. I will let you know if I run into any more issues.

At this stage, do you have a planned timeline for the actual retirement of the legacy widget? 6 months / 12 months, etc? It would just be helpful to prepare for the transition. Thanks!

@pixandhue We don’t have a timeline at the moment. In fact, we’ll re-think this idea and maybe keep the legacy widget in the plugin as we don’t want to affect users that prefer using it.

Thank you @ciorici I appreciate it! Confirming that everything seems to be working properly with the Legacy Widget with version 2.0.2 of the plugin, thanks for the bug fixes.

And yes, if you consider keeping the widget, that would be great. And as an added step, removing the “This widget will be discontinued …” message in a future plugin update. I think it’s great you are adding more functionality to the plugin and making improvements, but for some people – a simple widget is better and easier to manage. Thank you for your fast work!
