Hi @tomasrisbergsilentse sorry about that! Do you know from which version you updated? Do you see any more information or getting any email about any error?

Thank you for your reply. I’m trying to update from version 1.3.0 of the Matomo plugin.

@tomasrisbergsilentse any chance you can send us the Matomo system report see https://matomo.org/faq/wordpress/how-do-i-find-and-copy-the-system-report-in-matomo-for-wordpress/ ? You may need to enable define( 'MATOMO_SAFE_MODE', true ); to avoid the maintenance error you are getting. You could send us the report by email to wordpress@matomo.org or paste it as a comment here (the report should be anonymised).

Have you for now downgraded to 1.3.0 so it works again? I’ve looked through the changes and so far I can’t really explain it yet why this would happen. Did you maybe also update other plugins?

Hi @tomasrisbergsilentse have you had a chance to look at my previous comment? Is this still an issue for you?

Hi, I apologize. Didn’t see your answer until now. Yes, the problem persists. I will try to look in to your suggestions tomorrow.

Thanks @tomasrisbergsilentse for sending through the system report.

We will fix the notice within the system report as part of our Matomo for WordPress 4.0 release (which will be in about 2 weeks).

I couldn’t reproduce the issue yet when I tried to replicate your system. I’ve just released version 1.3.2 though. Could you try to update again and see if this fixes the issue?

If it’s still happening, is there any more information maybe shown in the maintenance mode? When exactly is it happening? On any request, or only when you few specific type of pages in the admin?

    (@tomasrisbergsilentse)

Sadly the 1.3.2 version does not fix the problem. I only update, there are no other pages open in WP, only the WP dashboard.

In maintenance mode the site is put in maintenance mode.

When I remove the maintenance file in public_html via ftp the site becomes visible again.

    Matomo is not updated.

@tomasrisbergsilentse any chance you could try to update the plugin using FTP? See https://wordpress.org/support/article/managing-plugins/#manual-plugin-installation for the steps on how to do this.

Basically, you would download the plugin from https://wordpress.org/plugins/matomo/ , extract the files on your computer and then upload these files using FTP on to $your-wordpress-directory/wp-content/plugins/matomo.

After doing some more research I found it may be possible there’s a compatibility problem (for example with another plugin) that causes a glitch. I cannot reproduce this so far though so unfortunately I can’t do anything about it.

It may otherwise help if you could send us the plugins that cannot be downloaded from the WordPress plugins directory to wordpress@matomo.org . I installed the same plugins as you are using but I can only install the ones from the WordPress plugins directory. There may be a problem with one of the other plugins you are using.

    Thanks.

I installed Matomo 1.3.2 via sftp. It worked.

If I run in to the same problem with a new version of Matomo, I will try to figure out if a conflicting plugin is the culprit.

Thanks for this @tomasrisbergsilentse very appreciated and glad it works when updating manually. Feel free to comment here any time if you run into this issue again and we’ll be happy to follow up. Thanks again and have a great day
