Vehicle Details
-
Hi Jay,
I have recently installed Car demon to incorporate my car dealership inventory. One problem that I seem to be having is that when i enter my vehicle details into the designated description boxes below the car they do not come up on the site, and a customer cannot click on the view details bottom on the inventory. I was just wondering if there was any way to resolve this?
Regards
Steven

the webpage is cookiescars.co.uk, and the inventory is under stock.
Hello Steven,
Sorry for the delay in responding. I’ve been out of the office all weekend. I took a quick look at your site and everything looks good from here, are you still having an issue?
No problem Jay. Yeah I managed to sort that aspect of things. I just cant seem to click on the vehicle details button that is displayed at the bottom of the page? Also I was just wondering if there was anyway to change some of the vehicle details to suit the U.K market?
I took a quick look again and now see the issue with the detail button. It appears that the sidebar widget is causing the issue, specifically the search bar. Can you try setting a different widget on the top of the sidebar? Try using the compare vehicle widget and see if that resolves the issue. Let me know.
On the second note, what kind of detail changes do you need for the U.K. market? I’d like this PlugIn to be as international as possible, unfortunately my lack of international knowledge has made this a slow process, but if you can explain to me what I can do to make it more usable to your area then I’ll do what I can.
Yeah I see what you mean about the sidebar. Do you have any idea how I could change that? I tried going onto my widgets and sorting it out but I cant seem to see an option to get rid of it.
Just a few minor things like color is spelt colour in the U.K I think what you would call a VIN plate is a Registration number over here, i think. Also just for a couple of your side bars, when trying to add numbers or submit comments the only option available is to add American numbers, for instance is the uk a landline number would start with something like 01383 then six digits, and a mobile would start with 07 and then consist of a further nine digits.
Thank you for your quick responses.
I think we can use the language translation file to create a “British” translation file (en_GB). Download a copy of PoEdit and then go into the Car Demon languages folder, copy the car-demon.po file and rename the copy to car-demon-en_GB.po, then open that in PoEdit. Find the lines that contain VIN and color and change them to the correct British terms, then save the file. You should now have a .po file and a .mo file. Upload both of those to your languages folder. Then open the wp-config.php file in your main WordPress folder, look for the line that says
define('WPLANG', '');Change that to
define('WPLANG', 'en_GB');This will tell WordPress that you’re using British English and should tell the PlugIn to use the British translation file.
If you create a British translation file would you mind send me a copy so I can include it with the PlugIn?
As for the phone number, there is an option in the Car Demon settings to turn off the phone number validation, which will allow you to type any style number into the phone number fields. Let me know if that will work for you.
If you run into bumps with PoEdit let me know.

sorry for the late reply been trying to figure out how to do this as I am quite new to wordpress. I have managed to sort the search bar issue, thanks for your help. I am still struggling with the language settings. Where would I find the car demon language settings? Sorry to be a pain but Im really struggling :S
No worries, localization and translation files are fairly new to me so I understand how confusing they can be. It’s all handled by the language settings in WordPress, which is set by the wp-config.php file. Themes and PlugIns will use that to determine which language file the should use, if it is available.
In this particular case I have stored all of the PlugIn language files in the “languages” folder, so if you create a “British” translation it should be stored in that folder with the file name of car-demon-en_GB.po and car-demon-en_GB.mo, as long as the wp-config file has the language tag set to en_GB then the plugin will know which language file to use.
I hope that helped explain and didn’t confuse you further. If you’re still having issues let me know.
haha not at all I have managed to download Po edit and create the new files. The only problem I have now is trying to find the wp-config file within wordpress. Ill explain my situation to you. I had someone make a website for me, but they did a terrible job so I have had to take over myself and she used wordpress, so I have been trying get use to the system and all the functions. Once I have all this sorted I will make a donation to the plug in as I appreciate your help and quick responses.
You’re probably going to need to FTP into the site to get to the wp-config.php file, it will be in the root folder of your WordPress install.
I would love a donation, but I would settle for a review and a rating 😉
I managed to just download a plug in that allowed me to change the language. I think I have successfully created the file for british translations but just cant seem to display it on my website. What is your email address and ill send you a copy of it 🙂
What PlugIn are you using for languages?
You can email me at theveryfirstperson at gmail.com
Send it on over and I’ll add it to the PlugIn and check it out.
thanks!
its just called WordPress Language 🙂 no problem I will do it now 🙂
thats it sent 🙂
Awesome, I just got it. I’ll check it out and make sure I can get it to work on my end, then I’ll add it to the next version of the PlugIn and give you credit for the translation. I appreciate it!
