Using two security plugins together

My site already has wordfence (free version and I dont make money yet with my site so I cannot purchase paid version) and apparently it wasnt enough so it got malicious code in it and also I suspect there is virtual traffic on my websites.
Someone suggested me to install cloudflare to prevent virtual traffic. So this is something wordfence cannot do but cloudflare can?
Can I use wordfence and cloudflare together on same site? Or it will cause problems?
What is the difference between wordfence and clooudflare in 1-2 sentence?

Cloudflare is not a security plugin.
Cloudflare is a web proxy and can hide your origin server from the world wide wait!
Cloudflare will also handle your DNS and can provide your SSL for https. That is not security but does enclose the traffic between your server and the visitor’s PC inside encrypted packets. That’s a good thing but don’t confuse that with server security. It’s not!
What I do is run WordFence with iThemesSecurity as they work very well together and behave well in tandem. I also install the Sucuri plugin and enable it when I have any suspicions then disable it after a time. That’s probably overkill but feels good to have.
I also recommend ‘not bragging’ about your site nor advertising it willy-nilly and attracting just anyone. I realize that’s often a fine line to walk.
Use a decent host. If you can, go with a VPS or even a dedicated server.
And create backups… continuously… religiously… Always!
Do not trust your host to backup your website… backups belong in hidden directories on your webserver and on a thumb drive in a safe place at your office, home, and/or both.
