Using Microsoft SMTP Server

    I am hoping someone has used the Simple SMTP plugin to send emails using the Microsoft 365 business SMTP server from a GoDaddy hosted website and can give me some tips.

    The Microsoft business SMTP server is <myhostname>-com.mail.protection.outlook.com. We have on-premises copier machines that are able to send emails using that SMTP server, port 25, without any login credentials.

    On the GoDaddy webserver, using the Simple SMTP plugin, I have tried with and without my business email account’s username/password (The email account is hosted by Microsoft). I have tried both port 25 and 587. I have tried tls, ssl. and none.

    Nothing appears in the Simple SMTP log in the WordPress Dashboard. Nothing appears in the PHP error_log or debug.log. The page that causes the email to be sent times out after 60 seconds (HTML Status Code 504 from the CDN server).
