using Membership Package shortcode

I’m attempting to protect a page using the membership level shortcode. So, I’ve put the shortcode into the page and it displays the icon “Only Gold Members can see this content”. This is good. But, the page and its contents are still viewable to users who are either not logged in or users who do not have this membership level. How do I protect the content on the page (or the page itself)? In TEXT view of the page, the code looks like this:
[usersultra_protect_content display_rule='membership_based' membership_id='1' custom_message_membership='Only Gold Members can see this content'] Private Content... [/usersultra_protect_content]
