I never did before. You would have to change localhost in your configuration file to the name of your external host. But often hosts don’t open their mysql server to the internet for security reasons. Networking in mysql would have to be turned on and the port to the mysql server would have to be open.
I have done several set ups with external db’s – no problems
just give it a shot
Hi guys, thanks for the reply. Tried it last night on my localhost connecting to an external database over the internet and it was a success. It seems that I’ve been using the incorrect parameters when trying to connect to that database. Oh I love WordPress! (Next to joomla :D)
Can you guys elaborate a little bit more on how to accomplish this?
I have a client who has no access to data bases on the server an I want to connect their WP installation to one of my DB.
Thank you!
Samboll can you share your knowledge on this topic?
I really want to know how to hook up WP with external DB.
Thank you in advance.
