    Hello,

I’ve connected the WP Mail SMTP plugin for a client who is using regular Gmail (not Gmail for Business). Therefore, the only option for User Type was External, which I selected.

Previously I have only used Internal User Type.

What do I need to do differently when selecting External User Type? Do I need to submit the app for verification in order for the SMTP Plugin to function correctly? Is it sufficient to leave it in test mode? I have added the client’s gmail address (used to setup the plugin) as a test user.

    Thank you,

    Dani

  • Hi @neverlandstudio,

Thanks for reaching out. Yes, you may verify your app. If you don’t verify you’ll see a warning while authorizing your account to send emails which you can still skip to complete the authorization process.

    I hope this helps!

    Thanks for your reply @sanzeeb3!

So there’s no need to verify the app in order for the plugin to work? It will function fine in test mode.

But if I’d like to verify the app, there’s also no harm in doing so.

    Is that correct?

    Thank you,

    Dani

    Hi @neverlandstudio,

The App works fine in the ‘publish’ mode as well which is required to successfully authorize your account. If you don’t verify the app, you’ll see a warning during authorization. If you don’t see any warning – you might need to verify anyway.

    Thanks!
