User-Specific Drop Down Menu Items
-
Hello all,
I’m looking for a rather specific functionality with a website that I’m helping to develop. I should preface this by saving that I am a novice to web development and WordPress, but I’m poking around and holding my own (and have access to some professional assistance).
Essentially what I’m looking for is the ability to limit which selections a user can see on drop-down menus based on their user profile. As an example…
Say one of the menu items is “Models of Car”, and in the user’s profile they’re able to specify the Make of the car that they’re interested in or care about. Then, once they’ve selected the make, the site will only display models of that make in that specific drop-down. So if they specify “Ford” in their profile, the “Models of Car” drop down will have items like “F-150”, “Focus”, “Mustang”, etc., but won’t list “Charger”, “Ram”, “Corvette”, or “Civic”.
This might be an outrageously complicated thing to accomplish, but it would be awesome if I could pull it off. Our actual site’s content is variable based on the user’s location, and since there are tons of locations if would be nice to not have a bunch of drop-down items for each location, but rather certain items for each user.
Any thoughts/criticisms/recommendations would be awesome!
Thanks!
Chris D.
