Hello @niftythree,
I was able to reproduce this issue when I was using AUTH_KEY with no role assigned. I fixed this for version 3.0.0. This version can be found on GitHub.
https://github.com/nicumicle/simple-jwt-login
I will release these fixes in a couple of days in the WordPress plugin directory.
If you want to wait for the released version, please add roles to the AUTH Codes, and everything should be ok.
In case you use the new version, please let me know if this fixes your issue, and don’t please forget to rate the plugin.
Best regards,
Nicu.

Hi Nicu,
Thank you very much for looking into this and coming up with a fix :).
We are happy to wait in the meantime and we will report back and let you know how it goes once the update comes through. We had also added the subscriber role to the AUTH Codes prior to this thread and still experienced the issue of no role being assigned. Are you able to test this on your end also?
Thanks!
