Great plugin, however it lacks control over what different user roles can do. Right now anyone can replace any file, not just his own. Sure, an error message is displayed, but the image is uploaded and replaced anyway. “User Role Editor” doesn’t help.

Would be nice to set the access level based on a capability, like “manage_options”.

If it can’t be done selectively (e.g. a contributor is able to replace his files but not others), then please at least allow to disable the whole “replace media”-option for non-authorized user roles in general. Thanks!

    Hi @anchises,

Thanks for your message; we will internally discuss if and how to implement this 🙂

    Have a good one!

I would like to request this as well. This is a brilliant plugin but having the site say ‘Sorry, you are not allowed to edit this item.’ when they actually can, is not helpful. I need my site to allow people to replace the attachments without renaming them and if the site brings up that message, even though it IS working, is not good.

Do you have any idea how to make it not say ‘Sorry, you are not allowed to edit this item.’ but instead just let it function in the normal way (eg a success message)?

    Thanks!

User roles, which are only allowed to edit their own files (author, contributer), shouldn’t be able to overwrite files of other users. The option to re-upload such files shouldn’t even be accessible, which should be the default behaviour, there is no need for any messages in the first place.
