Setting up my store and I’d love some suggestions on the best way to categorize or make it user friendly for visitors. The challenge I’m facing is I have so many different subject matters that making a category for each seems not very user friendly. I typically only have 1 of each item. I make art pieces and the designs could be pets, floral, bugs, landscapes, halloween, Christmas, nature, etc. I can see having 30+ categories if I did it that way. And some designs I have no idea how to categorize them. I will end up with about 150 + products. For anyone else with similar inventory, are you finding it best to make so many categories and sub-categories? Or would tags be a better option? Thanks for any feedback!

    Hi @j_folkes,

I can understand why you’re thinking this through early on having a large variety of unique, one-of-a-kind products can make it challenging to decide on a category structure that’s both organized and easy for customers to browse.

With the type of inventory you’re describing, I would generally recommend keeping your product categories broad and using product tags to describe the specific subjects or themes.

For example, your categories could be based on the type of product, such as:

    • Wall Art
    • Home Décor
    • Ornaments
    • Gifts

Then, use tags for the individual themes, such as:

    • Floral
    • Pets
    • Halloween
    • Christmas
    • Nature
    • Landscapes
    • Insects

This approach keeps your store navigation simple while still allowing customers to find products related to a particular subject. It also makes it easier to add new products in the future without creating dozens of categories that may only contain one or two items.

If you find that a particular theme grows significantly over time (for example, you end up with many Halloween or Christmas products), you can always promote that theme from a tag to its own category later.

    I hope this helps!
