Uploading images

Hi,
I am new to word press and I am having problems uploading images from my computer.
I have followed the uploading steps for media and come up with the folowing error message
“Unable to create directory /var/www/virtual/teeganfox.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/06. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”
or
“Error saving media attachment.”

I am uploading in browser view, I have also tried flash.
