    Hi All;

    Hoping someone can help me here. I currently use aphotofolio for my photography website. Up until recently they were affiliated with flywheel to host the blogs. I missed the cut-off for transferring my data.
    Aphotofolio has provided me with a backup of my blog, however I am told that I need to upload it to wordpress.org. in order to get my files back.
    Question, do I need to have a host in order to upload to wordpress? I am trying to find where to upload on wordpress but do not see the actual wordpress backend to create posts.
    Thank you for your help.

    No. WordPress.org does not host your site. You need to have a host. See https://wordpress.org/hosting/ for the official recommendations. As to how you’d restore from that backup, it depends on how the backup was made. Do you have any info on that?

    @sterndata Thank you for your reply.

    I will look into hosting.

    I do not have info on how the backup was made, I will find out about it.

    Kudos to Flywheel for providing that backup before closing the site. They could have just closed the site down but went that extra mile.

    My guess is the backup is a server Control Panel provided backup (not from any WordPress plugin) so a ‘break it open with a decent zip tool and upload via FTP’ would be in order.

    If you’re running Windows on your PC you might look at Total Commander which even does FTP, unzip/zip, and reminds me of the old Norton Commander from back when DOS was king!
