I have the same problem… my Presentation screen says: “The template files are located in wp-content/themes/billyblogirlardo. The stylesheet files are located in wp-content/themes/billyblogirlardo.” but after uploading 2 theme folders via Filezilla, all I get at this location is “Fatal error:… as shown here http://billy-girlardo.com/WordPress/wp-content/themes/billyblogirlardo/
I was able to switch themes no problem while in Xampp but not now, any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
FFL, WordPress will be looking for the theme files at fibbit.com/wp-content/themes/, not 67.15.157.14/wordpress/wp-content/themes/. You must move the theme files to fibbit.com/wp-content/themes/ .
BillyG, you are seeing that error because you are trying to view the theme file directly. What happens when you activate the theme in the Presentation menu?
That’s just it, I don’t see the new one’s I uploaded on the Presentation screen. I had no problem in Xampp but now that I’ve gone “live”, I don’t see anything besides the 2 defaults Classic & Default, and the currently active one which is named after my blog. So now what? Thx for helping.
Billy, what are your two URL values in Options/General?
I see Options\Misc.. has a box for “allow uploads”, it wasn’t clicked (then again, my opml came up okay, hmm), tring the theme upload again now…
The WordPress upload function won’t work for themes. It uploads files in binary format because it was make for image and media files. The theme files need to be uploaded in text (ASCII) format. You need to use an FTP client to upload your theme files.
I ‘m pretty sure I just found it… my first post above points to… /billyblogirlardo because that was the currently active theme, which is why the screen said that the template & stylesheet files where located in there. I just realized that I was uploading to that …/billblogirlardo instead of the …/themes right above that… all good now!
FYI: Filezilla is the FTP client. Thx so much for sticking with me!
I have the exact same problem; I posted here before about it… my URL is http://epithesisnow.com — the two themes I have uploaded but can’t see under Presentation are cub-reporter and mw1.1… I tried to follow BillyG’s resolution, but can’t make any progress. By the way what does “bump for more information” mean? (sorry, total newbie here). Thanks much for any help…
