Uploaded images lose quality dramatically

Hi WP Forum,

I just uploaded some images to my WP Library and then I tried to insert one of them in a post. The image quality had deteriorated to the point where text in the image that was easily legible before the upload was now blurred beyond recognition. Is this normal? Is there a work around?
