Hi since uploading to 2.9.2 I have had problems uploading photos to the site – I am using the flash upload and have tried both explorer and Firefox.
I get a Red io 10 error message after one picture has been crunched. All the photos are resized from the web and i have been using wordpress for a few months.

I also think I may have tried upgrading to the 2.9.0 version before the backup had finished!

I have tried reinstalling 2.9.2 but the control page just goes on for ever and never seems to finish.

Can anyone offer any advice? I have read the sticky but i think it is more to do with the backup or 2.9.2

  • Follow the advice for the “manual” upgrade (see message at the bottom of post first).
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress
This will ensure all the files were upgraded, and none missed (which can happen if the upgrade hangs)..

Once you’ve done that (and all is operating fine), goto Admin > Settings > Misc and re-save the upload path (doesn’t matter if it looks fine, save the setting again)..

Upload problems following upgrades do sometimes look related to this setting, simply saving it again sometimes resolves the problem.

Hi y31os thanks for your help but done that to no avail. Also when I get the IO error the whole wordpress dashboard seems to freeze and any attempt to access the panel times out.

Any suggestions I’m really getting frustrated and have no idea what I’m doing!

I do not no if my hosting company have changed anything thier end as they are trying to solve the upload issue but I tried to upload the photos again and they uploaded fine or so I thought but when I looked in the media library the photo names ect are there but not the image or thumbnail – if you look in the media library you just see the last uploads with no thumbnail and when you try and insert them into a post you just get a blank square. All previous uploads have a thumbnail.

    HELP anyone?

    Hi,

Reset the upload from wordpress admin area settings section. Also assign 755 recursive permissions to wp-content folder of your blog which will resolve the issue.

    Thanks,

    Hi Shane,

Thank for that I have done what you said but I am still not getting any images – the uploading and crunching seems to work fine now but no thumbnails are displayed and when I insert the gallery into a post I just get a outside line of where the image should be.

By reset the upload do you mean Admin > Settings > Misc then just press save changes?

    Exactly..

Would also be handy to know what you currently have entered into that field.

Can you additionally provide an attachment ID for one of the non-working images so i can check the path of the problem attachment.. to do so..

    1. Goto the media library
    2. Locate a problem attachment
    3. Hover over the edit link

In the status bar part of the URL should be something like ?attachment=55 (55 is just an example ID)..

Is the site in question the one linked to by your forum username?

NOTE: If you upload an attachment when the path is incorrectly set, upon changing the path (to whatever else), it will *NOT* fix images that were already uploaded under an incorrect path.

Then I have the upload to month and date folders ticked and track links blank.

Yes it is the site linked to me.

I have been using the site with no problems for a while.

    Many thanks.

I just noticed that both of the upload paths are the same – I deleted the second one as it says by default that it should be left blank and it working fine now except the images already uploaded have gone blank now…

I’ve put it back to how it was and await your expert help… Thank you for answering on a Sunday 🙂

Just changed it back and it has reversed so that the older posts are showing and the newer posts have lost the thumbnails.

Like i said previously, if you change the URL it’s not going to fix the older images uploaded under the old path.

If you have been uploading images successfully, i can’t see what you need my help with.

NOTE: It wasn’t much help having the attachment ID unfortunately, it appears your theme isn’t setup to handle single attachment pages, so i can’t check them (404 on the attachment page for the ID you provided further up).

The important step is to get uploads working, if you can do that (even if it means breaking old image paths), then do it, and use the following to replace the old paths with the new one (post content etc)..

    Hi t31os – I haven’t knowingly changed anything except the 2.9.2 upgrade.

I need your help as i am no longer uploading successfully and my knowledge is very limited.

So what i need to do is replace the upload path with the plug in? I’ve downloaded the plugin but can’t see anything which says to replace the photos path – what should I be replacing? Sorry for being so thick!

You don’t need to replace anything as long as uploads don’t work.

Focus on getting uploads working first, then worry about URLs.

What is your upload path set to? (the upload field in the admin misc section).

Above are the two file – the top one is visible the bottom isn’t but as far as I can see they have the same upload path? If I delete the second field in the miscellaneous folder they swap visibility!

Sorry I was typing while you where. I can get the uploads to work by deleting the second upload path (which is says by default should be blank) but when i do this the older images aren’t visible.
