• Greetings.

I hope I’m posting this in the right place.

I only recently began to use WordPress.

I’m building a personal site, and am having trouble uploading media files (videos, mostly). I want to post videos on some of my pages.

I’ve researched online, and I know that this issue is nothing new. However, I am not quite sure exactly how to resolve it.

The two main solutions proposed are : to transfer the media files to my WP site, using either my domain’s File Manager, or FTP

I have access to both of these. But, considering that the contents of pages in WordPress are actually stored in the database, and not in actual files, how exactly do I copy videos onto my pages?

    Thanks

How large are these files — and why do you want to serve them from your site rather than embedding a Youtube player?

Some of them are up to 80 or 90 MB

They are media files (recorded from my camera).

Is this something that a YouTube player can playback, on my WP site?

Sure. Upload the files to youtube and mark them as playable only for those who have the link. Paste the link to the youtube page for each video into a post (on a line by itself) and WP will auto-display the youtube player.

    Thanks Steve 🙂

Do I need to first install some YouTube plug-in on my WP site?

No. All you have to do is paste the URL for youtube video and WP will recognize it and handle it.

    Thanks a lot.

I’ll try it now and get back …….

    Worked like a charm!

    THANKS ))

On a side-note, though: is it indeed possible to transfer large media files onto a WP page? Either with FTP or the File Manager?

Yes, you can change settings to allow very large uploads. But what you upload outside of WP will not show up in the media library.

    Cool.
